Xander smiled at his lounging boyfriend, “Do you know what day it is?”

Spike looked up from the TV, “Thursday pet.”

Xander nodded, “Yes but what day.”

Spike sighed, “November 2nd Xan.”

Xander frowned, “Spike don’t you remember what today is?”

Spike, of course, remember what day it was. It was their 1st anniversary but he had a special night planned and he didn’t want the surprised ruined so he decided to play dumb, “Sure it’s the Passions marathon.”

Xander looked at the floor and back up, “I’ll see you after work.”

Spike frowned as his Xander hurried out the door. Maybe he shouldn’t have played the clueless act. Xander was very sensitive about relationships.

Sighing Spike stood up, “Well can’t fix it now. I better make this really special.”  He headed down to the sewer entrance. He had a lot of stuff to lug over from the Magic Box.

6 Hours later:

Xander trudged up the stairs of the building. The site had shut down a few hours early because of the rain. He still felt like shit because of Spike forgetting their every first anniversary.

Fishing his keys out of his pocket Xander hoped Spike was at the Magic Box. He didn’t know if he could be around him right then. Pushing the door open Xander frowned he smelled tomato sauce.

“Spike?”

Spike quickly looked around the corner into the main room. “What are you doing here? I still have two bleedin’ hours before you’re suppose to be home.”

Xander looked at Spike funny, “What are you doing?”

Spike put his hands on his hips, “Well I was trying to be romantic wasn’t I. Make you a nice meal and surprise you for our anniversary. Now why are you home?”

Tears filled Xander’s eyes, “You didn’t forget?”

Spike’s eyes softened, “Oh pet I couldn’t forget you or the day we got together.”

Xander dropped his jacket on the floor and wrapped his arms around Spike, “I love you.”

Spike smiled, “I love you too. Now go watch TV or something I’m still cooking.”

Xander rubbed his stomach, “I’m hungry. What are we having?”

Spike shook his head, “Pasta. Its almost ready so go do something so I can finish.”

Xander nodded, “I’ll go shower and get cleaned up.”

Spike nodded and walked back into the kitchen to check his sauce.

Spike set the table with their best dishes, which meant the only plates that didn’t have some star wars theme on them.  He just finished putting glasses on the table when Xander came out of the bedroom.

Xander smiled as he came up to the table, “I figured since you were going through all the trouble to make a meal and everything I thought I would dress up a little.”

Spike looked at Xander dressed in khaki pants and a white button down shirt, “You look good Xan.”

Xander leaned and kissed Spike, “Thanks. So is dinner ready?”

Spike laughed, “You think with your stomach.”

Xander shook his head and leaned into Spike again, “Only when I’m really hungry usually when I’m around you I think with something else.”

Spike grinned, “Well that’s going to have to wait until we’ve eaten my pasta.”

Xander sat down in his chair at the table, “Lets get through dinner so I can have my dessert.”

Spike laughed as he walked into the kitchen.

Xander cleaned his third plateful, “For not eating regular food baby you sure can cook.”

Spike smiled, “If I could blush I probably wouldn’t but thank you.”

Xander laughed.

Spike stood up and began clearing the table, “If you want to go watch some TV while I do these few plates go ahead.” He walked into the kitchen with the dinner dishes.

Xander smiled and followed Spike into the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around the lean body of his boyfriend, “Leave the dishes Spike.”

Spike turned in Xander’s arms, “I think I like where this is going.”

Xander captured Spike’s lips in a passionate kiss, “Come on.”

Spike followed his boyfriend from the kitchen. He was glad that he had finally decided a year ago to give in to his love for Xander. Before Xander he had been so alone but now he had all the love he could handle and he was going to make damn sure Xander knew how loved he was in return.

Spike laid wrapped in Xander’s arms, “Maybe we should have skipped dinner and went straight for dessert Xan-pet.”

Xander laughed, “I told you.” He rolled over and kissed Spike.

“Happy Anniversary Spike. Love you.”

Spike closed his eyes and sighed contently, “Happy Anniversary Xan. Love you too.”
